| Biz Markie Stars In Documentary
Legendary rapper Biz Markie will offer fans a glimpse into his past with a new Scion documentary, titled Stomping Grounds.
The 22-minute film follows the rhymesayer as he journeys to his old neighborhood in Long Island and revisits places that shaped his musical destiny such as barber shops, food joints, nightclubs, sneaker shops, arcades and general hangouts. Markie's childhood friends will also be featured as they share stories related to each location.
“I’m from Long Island, but everybody knew me from other towns,”
the rapper said. “I was like a pope.”
The documentary, which was created in the format of a half-hour series, will also chronicle Markie's childhood as well as his early years in the music business.
Scion, the company behind Stomping Grounds, will submit the Inform Ventures produced feature to U.S. film festivals before airing it on Scion Broadband.
The Scion broadcast will include additional behind-the-scenes footage in addition to Markie’s story behind the making of one of his biggest songs, “Just a Friend.”
Stomping Grounds is the latest film from Scion, which is actively pursuing licensing opportunities for a potential series based on the Stomping Grounds concept.
The company's previous effort, On the DL, featured Roots drummer Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson and King Britt as they applied for their drivers license.
The short-film, which screened at 10 film festivals, was later honored with the Silver Plaque award at the Chicago International Film Festival.
