OCOEE, Fla. -- Authorities said an Ocoee man was rescued after he fell into Starke Lake when his dog bumped his boat's engine. Forty-six-year-old Robert Bates was preparing to head home after fishing Thursday night when his black Labrador pounced the boat's throttle.
Bates, who had just taken off his flotation device, had trouble swimming because the water was so cold.
Neighbors heard his cries for help and called 911.
The Ocoee Fire Department set out in a boat to find Bates, but he had already been picked up by another boater.
The dog stayed in the boat the whole time and wasn't injured. |
