| I'm not downloading "Curtis" until there's an unedited version out.
But otherwise, just listening to "Graduation" so far, it's almost unfair for me to say this, but...I really think Kanye took this one, like expected.
I don't care about people's reactions from the snippets and whatnot. I never listen to snippets anyway.
This album, as a whole, was VERY solid. MUCH better than I expected, and I already had pretty high expectations.
My first impression is that, sonically, it's not as artistic or innovative as "Late Registration" was. But then again, it's not like "Graduation" was intended as an experiment in music, like the last album was.
This album, so far, stands on its own as being simply Kanye. Unique. No other word to describe it.
Lyrically, he's as solid as ever. I could list how many rappers he could outrap with some of the verses I've listened carefully enough to, but I'd rather not, out of fear of sparking another endless debate.
Production-wise, no other album touches this one.
I was able to listen to this whole thing virtually from beginning to end. The only skipping I've done was after I got through the bulk of each track, but just enough that I already had a good impression of each.
Hip-hop album of the year? Possibly.
And if it doesn't get at least TWO Grammy awards, then that's a crime against music, period, and shows you how messed up the Grammys really are compared to the AMA's.
Not saying that brashly.
Saying that FACTUALLY. |
