The only reason he had only one album out so far was because that album flopped due to lack of promotion and his sophomore album is still under construction.
He's highly respected by many for his freestyles and mixtape work. But because he's not even on the mainstream radar despite being signed to Def Jam, I definitely wouldn't call him overrated. Diddy and Lil' Wayne are tied for the most overrated rapper. But, at least Lil' Wayne can actually rap. The only reason I consider Weezy to be overrated is because his skills are made to be better than they actually are.
Yes, he's had some great punchlines recently, but he can't carry a whole album, and his flow gets boring very quickly. He never changes his vocal inflection much, and it all gets very repetitive, especially when he starts to lose steam and rhyme just to rhyme (a la Cam'ron and the majority of Dip Set). Speaking of Dip Set, I'll throw them in there too as overrated. Their lyrical ability is mostly subpar, and some of their rhymes (Cam'ron especially) are laugh-out-loud ridiculous and make no sense. Young Jeezy also falls in the category of overrated since he's nothing but a glorified hype man. He has more ad-libs than clever punchlines, and his lyricism is questionable at times. He's still a competent rapper, but not nearly as good as people make him out to be. |

About Jeezy, he admitted he doensn't consider himself a rapper. He says he's a "motivational speaker". But I like him. His last album was okay, his ad-libs are catchy! |
